Yemen has substantial reserves of metals like cobalt, copper, gold, iron ore, nickel, niobium, platinum-group metals, silver, tantalum, and zinc which are awaiting exploration because Yemen’s mining industry is mostly undeveloped or under-developed. The country is known for its ancient gold mines, particularly in the regions of Hajjah and Amran. The Hadramout region reportedly has huge deposits of gold. Many foreign minerals exploration companies like Cantex Mine Development Corp of Canada, Thani Daubi Mining of UAE and the government have been involved in mining activities in Al Hariqah, Wadi, Qutabah Sharis/Hajjah area, Medden area, Al-Mahrah region and so on.
